As part of the design process for the opening of new stores in Karlsruhe and Dresden, I had the exciting task of creating, managing and implementing new design concepts for the KIDS department at the Zalando Outlets in Karlsruhe and Dresden.

The goal? To create a standout shop-in-shop space that would attract parents’ attention without feeling too disconnected from the rest of the outlet. It also needed to be easily replicable in other locations.

The inspiration came from the beautiful German forests with their lush greenery and wildlife. I went for a minimalist, transformed Scandinavian style – think clean lines, natural materials and neutral colors, with a pop of one of Zalando’s key colors to tie it all together.

To make the magic happen, I sketched out tree and animal silhouettes, then turned them into digital files for CNC routers. The silhouettes were cut from pine plywood and finished with a clear varnish for that natural touch. It was amazing to see the space come to life, with the forest-inspired design creating a fun, inviting atmosphere that both kids and parents loved.

The whole process was a fantastic blend of creativity and technical know-how. From sketching initial concepts to overseeing the final installation, every step was a chance to bring something unique and engaging to the outlet experience. The end result was a KIDS department that not only looked great but also felt like a natural extension of the Zalando brand—a space that truly stood out while fitting seamlessly into the broader outlet environment.
