Welcome to the Labyrinth
„Untitled“, Peter Kogler

3D modeling, Adobe Illustrator, pre-press, technical oversight; Marta, Museum für Kunst, Architektur, Design, Herford.

In 2018, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Peter Kogler, whose famous works are exhibited around the world. The task was to create a texture for one of Frank Gehry’s deconstructionist exhibition spaces.

The space I had to work with was so non-geometric that I had to create a 3D model of the structure to understand what kind of surface I was working with. On the finished 3D model, I textured with graphics I received from the artist.

I used this to create a vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator and used it for pre-press. I divided the whole texture into 18 individual surfaces and sent it to the plotter on several hundred square meters of special expandable self-adhesive film.

While working on site in Herford, I supervised the application of the foil to the walls, ceilings and floors. I was surprised by the complexity and difficulty of the task. At the time, it was one of my most complex jobs at the interface of graphic design and architecture.
