The Zalando Outlet in the old town of Cologne was the first outlet I designed and brought to the final stage of opening in my career at Zalando Outlets. The store is located on the main shopping street, so the surroundings are overloaded with a variety of cantilever signs.

Due to the fact that the façade is relatively high, which could affect the window as not enough comes out, the challenge was to look for creative ideas to make the window more eye-catching.

To emphasize the brand and still keep the view into the store clear, I decided to combine the storefront design idea with the highlight wall in the entrance area.

The central point of the mall is highlighted by a massive open escalator staircase. This over 10m high wall was a great opportunity to showcase the brand and tie the entire outlet space together.

To cover the entire wall of the staircase I created a pattern made of Zalando logos. The whole wallpaper was produced in long banners and glued to the wall from the lifting platform.

To highlight the character of the elevator walls, I created several icons based on local landmarks and points of interest.

The silhouettes were used to create neon lights and, by their very nature, indicate the floor levels.

To be consistent, I created seamless departmental patterns for the women’s, men’s, and design departments based on the icons used for the elevator walls. These were used to create high quality vinyl wallpaper and implemented on each floor.
